Signal Integrity Challenges in High-Frequency TCXO Design

Edge integrity

At high frequencies, rise/fall times and ringing directly affect jitter; match the output drive to the trace and load impedance to keep edges clean.

Crosstalk

High-frequency clocks couple easily into adjacent traces; maintain spacing and use ground stitching to reduce crosstalk on dense boards.

Skew management

Long traces and multiple loads create clock skew; route the high-frequency clock with matched lengths or use a buffer to keep timing consistent.

Output selection

Choose CMOS for single-ended digital loads or LVPECL/LVDS for differential paths; differential outputs provide better noise immunity at higher frequencies.

Controlled impedance

Route differential pairs with 100 Ω differential impedance and keep them tightly coupled and equal in length.

Termination
